September 2024 Israel–Lebanon border clashes
In early September 2024 a series of Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon and retaliatory rocket and mortar fire into northern Israel produced several days of cross‑border hostilities. The exchanges—centred along the volatile frontier between Hezbollah positions and Israeli border communities—caused civilian casualties and damage on both sides, drew urgent calls for restraint from the United Nations and world capitals, and revived questions about UNIFIL’s role. 1993 Sukhumi airliner attacks
During the late‑September 1993 battle for Sukhumi in Abkhazia, small civilian flights used to evacuate wounded and civilians came under heavy ground fire. Among the incidents was the widely reported shootdown of a Transair Tupolev Tu‑134 on approach to Babushara (Sukhumi) airfield; sources place the event in late September 1993 and link it to the broader fall of Sukhumi. Reporting on dates, casualty totals and weapon types is uneven, but many contemporary and later accounts agree that dozens of civilians were killed when aircraft were struck during evacuation attempts.
