On December 1, 1974, TWA Flight 514, a Boeing 727 on approach to the Washington, D.C. area, struck the eastern slope of Mount Weather in Loudoun County, Virginia, killing all 92 people on board. Our Lady of the Angels School fire

In the morning hours of December 1, 1958, a smoldering ignition in a cloakroom of Our Lady of the Angels School in Chicago set off a rapid, deadly fire that spread through vertical openings and filled stairwells with smoke. Ninety-five people died — 92 students and three nuns — and roughly 77 others were injured. The disaster exposed dangerous design and practice in older school buildings and led to sweeping changes in fire safety nationwide.
